Privacy Policy

The short version
Free core, forever. No account, no cloud, nothing uploaded — ever. Your scripts and rehearsal history stay in your browser's local storage, on your own device. Spector Labs never sees them. The rest of this page explains the few places data does pass through a third party, and why.
1. What stays on your device
Everything related to using the free teleprompter — the scripts you paste or upload, your saved script library, player preferences (mode, speed, text size), and your rehearsal history — is stored using your browser's localStorage. It is never transmitted to Spector Labs' servers, because Spector doesn't have a server that stores this data. You can clear it at any time from the "Clear history" control on the site, or by clearing your browser's site data.
2. What does pass through a third party
- Email forms: If you submit the founding-beta form or the tips form, your email address and any message you write are sent to Formspree, a third-party form processing service, so we can reply to you. See Formspree's privacy policy.
- GitHub star count: The landing page makes a request to GitHub's public API to show the current star count and last-updated date. This sends only a standard web request (no personal data) and is cached in your browser for an hour.
- Payments: Spector Pro purchases are processed by Paddle (merchant of record). Paddle collects billing details needed to complete payment and tax. See Paddle’s privacy policy. Spector Labs does not store card numbers. A local Pro flag may be saved in your browser’s
localStorageafter checkout or license activation so this device can unlock Pro features — that flag never includes your payment details. - Aggregate analytics: We use Vercel Web Analytics to measure page visits and a small set of product actions, such as launching or completing a rehearsal. It is cookieless and stores anonymized device, browser, country, referrer, and page information. We do not send script text, email addresses, or form contents to analytics.
3. Cookies
Spector doesn't use tracking or advertising cookies. The service worker that enables offline PWA use stores site files in your browser's cache, not cookies.
4. Children's privacy
Spector isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
5. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Spector changes. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
